Passionate Game Designer with a particular focus on creating compelling stories through gameplay. I love working with others on my team to craft heartfelt games in immersive worlds. You can view my portfolio website at: brendenlyske.wordpress.comIn my final project at VFS, I took on the role of Level Designer, where I handcrafted turn-based combat encounters fitting the entire arc of a short gameplay experience. My main focus was on tutorialization, as this was a game with unique mechanics for a strategy game. Through extensive iteration of explicit and implicit tutorials, I built a path for players to learn the mechanics, expand on them, and then finally be tested in a puzzle-like final encounter.Additionally, I directed the narrative of our game. I collaborated with a creative writing student and voice actors to bring our characters to life with unique personalities supported by their own combat mechanics. Combined with audio and visuals from the rest of my team, we built an immersive experience to complement satisfying and challenging gameplay.I worked for two years as a Public Health Technologist throughout the tumultuous COVID Pandemic. During periods of high activity, I was taught to be adaptable, learn on my feet, and solve complex and high-stakes problems. During the lows, I was a self-driven learner and refiner. I taught myself to program so that I could create tools that would help us improve turnaround times and overall quality of the lab's work.I am eager to pursue new opportunities to learn and grow within the gaming industry.
