Co-founder of ZappiStore in 2012 and now overseeing software development

Joined as a founder in 2010 to lead the technical development of Insight Out, Intellection's platform for automated insight in the market research industry.

On leaving Dresdner Kleinwort in a permanent capacity and returning to South Africa, I was asked to support the trading platform on a consulting basis while new teams were trained up.

Hired in 2001 with two others to create a new fixed income trading platform for the bank. While the mandate was initially for fixed income, the fixed income code was kept decoupled from a core trading platform which was later used for trading Repos, FX, CDSs and CDOs. The trading platform was open sourced in 2003 and is now in use in several banks across London and Frankfurt.Technically, the core of the trading system was a Java desktop application designed to consume and display real-time streaming pricing information, streaming database events, news services and allow browsing of instrument data, histories, P&L, etc. The system was heavily multi-threaded to keep the system responsive under heavy market conditions.I was hired at the start of this project and was involved in the full project lifecycle. My contribution included designing and implementing the user interface, the design and implementation of real-time messaging; especially threading related features. And liaising with traders about how they used or wanted to use the system. Later, I worked with other teams in the bank to help them extend the platform for other asset classes.I left Dresdner Kleinwort in 2004 to return to South Africa.

Worked as a contract developer with IBM on the Global Freight eXchange (GF-X) platform. The GF-X platform is a market place for buying and selling global freight, comprised of order matching bids and offers, and performing complex routing searches to optimise for speed or cost (not unlike Hipmunk or Kayak today). Technically, this was a clustered Java web application running on a number of IBM technologies. My job included adding features to the trading platform and improving performance.
