About Brendon Wilkins

As an archaeologist and social entrepreneur, I design innovative, collaborative and participatory projects I believe wholeheartedly will lead to a fairer world and liveable human future. Archaeology can have a transformational power in people’s everyday lives, and is a vector for front-line outputs including knowledge creation, protecting the historic environment, individual health and wellbeing, and community cohesion. With this as my north star, I founded DigVentures in 2012, introducing an entirely new business and operational model for the sector. I have coined this approach ‘Social Impact Archaeology’: an inclusive, collaborative methodology grounded by sophisticated evaluation to evidence the change we make for beneficiaries of our work, including people, place and planet.I hold fellowships with the Royal Society of Arts, Society of Antiquaries, and am a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists. I have published widely on the role of innovation in archaeology, and was recently awarded a practice-based PhD from Leicester School of MuseumStudies. I’m currently building Deep Time - a collaborative, cooperative mapping platform for natural and cultural heritage, helping communities and landowners gather the essential data needed to measure natural capital, regenerate landscapes and prepare for the challenges of climate change. Delighted to chat about this and other creative endeavours - just get in touch!
