Building on my field work in Malawi, I was invited to join the board and subsequently elected President in June 2022. In this new role, I work closely with the other board members to define the strategic direction of our fundraising and grant-making activities, supervise a part-time staff member and help to cultivate trusting relationships with all of our partners that help them feel empowered and connected.♦ Orchestrated participatory survey and focus groups to develop plans for menstrual hygiene and gender equity projects. Supported Malawi-based team in data collection, synthesis of trends, proposal writing, and funding strategy development. Resulting project plans won 4 grant awards totaling $21K for both projects in the past two years.

In this role, I manage the daily operations of a growing primary care research team and oversee several multi-site research projects that aim to transform the way primary healthcare is delivered. We partner with collaborating institutions across the U.S. and with providers across the Pacific Northwest to implement interventions for loneliness, chronic pain, and substance use. Scientifically, I leverage my past experiences to inform and shape how we employ implementation science methods in our projects.

As a senior staff member, I oversaw operations in support of 201+ NIH-funded HIV research-community partnerships funded through the Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative by arranging technical assistance consultations, facilitating peer learning communities, recording webinars, shaping communication strategy, and leading meetings with 9 consultation hubs to share best practices, support harmonization of outcome measurement, and create a multi-site study network. ♦ Developed a team of 8 staff and collaborated with faculty to ensure timely completion of scientific deliverables, including IRB submissions, systematic reviews, and a special issue in JAIDS that highlighted project findings. Garnered renewed funding twice in my tenure as manager, leaving the project with a $1 million+ annual budget.♦ Directed production of digital implementation research tools (e.g., online training modules, implementation strategy decision support, literature review dashboard, etc.) through user-centered design processes. Developed and launched e-mail and social media marketing campaigns to promote tools, resources, and events to audience of 500+ members.

I contributed to multiple global gender projects through independent work and coordination with a distributed team. Some highlights of my work include:♦ Supported new business development efforts by consulting with client to write grants and concept papers for an innovative learning app that will promote early childhood literacy by engaging low-income mothers.♦ Collaboratively produced a literature review of gender sensitive strategies in the sanitation sector by conducting literature searches, synthesizing qualitative research, and writing sections of the manuscript for publication.♦ Served as project manager for a Gender Equality, Norms, and Health Lancet Series Launch event. Coordinate travel of guest speakers negotiate event contracts, and shape strategic communication and community outreach efforts.

Greater St. Louis Area

I collaborated with people living with HIV, attorneys and volunteers to draft and promote legislation designed to update statutes that criminalize HIV. In support of the campaign, I collected, organized, and analyzed data from scientific literature and our legislator surveys to assess current attitudes related to HIV and public health prevention strategies. Some of my key contributions include: ♦ Utilized data to create policy briefs and presentations the coalition relied on year after year. ♦ Provided expert testimony to Missouri House Committee and spoke on coalition’s behalf at bill filing press conference.

I planned, executed, and evaluated 60 events annually while overseeing a $22K budget. In support of the program, I also co-instructed a first-year seminar and developed proposals, secured scholarships and coordinated international travel for 4 study tours in Japan and Costa Rica.Some of my key contributions included:♦ Created and spearheaded program’s first annual student-focused 3-day conference with 150-200 participants. Annual themes included diversity in international affairs, global inequality, and global injustice.♦ Advised 80 students on management concepts and community engagement to assist them in aligning student-run projects with program goals and objectives. Built program’s undergraduate internship program to increase program capacity by creating new positions, recruiting candidates and supervising student workers.

I aided in the instruction of two graduate level courses for public health and social work students: Global Reproductive Health and Gender, Poverty, and Global Health. I coordinated a schedule of 12 speakers to present on topics related to global reproductive health, picked readings, developed short, interactive quizzes and assisted in grading.

Chiriqui, Panama

I networked with multiple agencies to implement an educational extension program supported by University of Panama School of Agricultural Sciences for vulnerable youth. In support of the program and in collaboration with colleagues, I co-authored and revised the project proposal, budget, and program manuals that led to the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of program goals and objectives.Some of my key contributions included: ♦ Organized orientation and recruitment events that reached over 700 prospective students. Increased student retention by 50% through newly piloted academic and financial aid programs. ♦ Co-facilitated a series of professional and personal development seminars on topics such as MS Office fundamentals, microenterprise essentials, leadership, job interviewing techniques and practice, mental health care and resilience strategies, and sexual and reproductive health information and care. ♦ Coordinated logistics and participant accommodations for two 3-day agricultural seminars with 25 participants. Coached 10 subsistence farmers in composting, cacao production, farm planning, and nurseries. Integrated, lived with, and shared experiences with 250 members of an indigenous community.

I oversaw 6 national gender equality events for men, women and youth held in communities throughout Panama to maximize attendance with a $6K per/event budget secured through PEPFAR. Event topics included sexual health, family planning, self-awareness, aligning goals with personal values, community leadership, domestic violence prevention, and gender awareness. Some of my key contributions included: ♦ Created curriculum for self-esteem, goal setting, and healthy relationships skill acquisition-based seminars to enable personal and professional growth in support of improving home and work life. ♦ Trained 200+ new volunteers in global diversity and allyship to acclimate them to host country social dynamics, prepare them to support vulnerable populations, and create an inclusive community among volunteers.
