I'm Brennan, a SCADA Analyst for Doyon Utilities. I finished my B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree in December 2021 and graduated with honors. During my time at UAF, I started a career path in building automation and in three-and-a-half years at Siemens had advanced from an intern, to a field technician, to an engineering specialist. In January of this year, I accepted a position at Doyon Utilities as a SCADA Analyst, marking a pivot in my career from building automation to industrial automation.There's certainly been a learning curve associated with the new position and adjacent industry, but I've found that plenty of the skills and experience that I gained working at Siemens transfer over. Even though the PLCs, HMIs, I/O servers, and front-end applications may be different, the core fundamentals that allow effective troubleshooting, development of best practices, and collaboration between stakeholders is the same.Beyond the expertise required to perform in my role, I'm highly-motivated to continue development of my skills. Outside of my job, I am pursuing a CompTIA Network+ certification and ISC2 CC certification to better advise other departments and improve my industrial automation solutions. I am also using other vendors' PLCs for home automation projects to experience and practice interfaces and protocols other than those used in our utilities.These strong technical and people skills combined with a constant pursuit of self-improvement has lead to great success in my career already. I'm proud to say that I have improved existing processes, created new tools, volunteered to mentor other employees to their own advancement, and achieved exceptional customer satisfaction in nearly every project I've been involved with as a result.
