Digital Content Designer
CurrentAs part of a team of content designers, my job is to make sure that Haringey's website meets the needs of its users. This is a process of constant iteration, monitoring and improvement, supported by regular check-ins with stakeholders within services. We have been modernising and centralising our working practices over the past few years. As we undertake a large-scale website improvement project, we are increasingly working to design standards and practices set out by the Government Digital Service and embedding new ways of working in the organisation. Our website analysis relies on data, so I've been instrumental in introducing Google Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio) into the team to help create live dashboards using data from GA, Search Console and Siteimprove. These can easily be shared with services to monitor performance and inform content decisions. As we have historically relied on service leads to maintain their website content, I run regular sessions with council officers to help them learn best practice around writing accessible content that works for our residents. I encourage a user-focused approach along with emphasis on simplicity and the use of plain English.During 2023 and 2024, I worked with service leads to transition sections of the website over to the new LocalGov Drupal platform. During this process, we reviewed the existing content to determine what could be migrated as is, improved or removed altogether. This resulted in an overall reduction in the number of pages and documents, and an improved experience for residents.I've assisted the implementation of new systems and forms to help residents manage their Council Tax and housing accounts, simplifying processes where possible and ensuring content followed best practice. I've also led insourcing projects to integrate formerly external sites back into Haringey's as organisational needs change.
