About Brent Seto
My deep ties to my Japanese American identity have taught me how important solidarity and advocacy are in the ongoing fight for justice and equality. As a result, I have a strong desire to use my voice to push for social change, good governance, and civil rights. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Washington with a double degree in Political Science with a focus in International Security and Law Societies and Justice (LSJ), and a Minor in Human Rights. I am currently a Legislative Fellow with the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) placed in the office of Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA-28). During my time at the University of Washington, I was involved with the on-campus student government, the Associated Students of the University of Washington. As the Director of Internal Policy from 2022-2023, I was elected by 43,000 students to advance student goals on academic, social, and economic issues through meticulous investigation and passage of legislation, such as improving campus wide elections procedures and advocating for affordable higher education. Furthermore, as a research fellow in the Center for American Politics and Public Policy, I also conducted independent research studying the social electoral motivations of the white working class in the 2020 US presidential election. I presented my findings at the UW Undergraduate Research Symposium in June of 2023. Outside of work, I enjoy rock climbing and playing tennis.
