After a decade spent with data, marketing and management where I was able to bring thought leadership to grow and cultivate strategic partnerships with enterprise level clients including AT&T, Journeys, Allstate, and Omaha Steaks and working across the organization as the company expanded, I helped drive innovation, provided thought leadership and delivered services and solutions, while exceeding client expectations.During that time I donned many different hats, rode out organizational changes, going from public to private, Super Bowl commercials in 2007 and 2008, complete reorganizations, a market crash, and four CEO changes. After losing a close friend to cancer work had the volume turned down. Suddenly the 85 hours a week didn't seem as worth it. I decided I needed some time away, after a short sabbatical to Africa, I came back refreshed, but my heart still wasn't in it. I decided I needed more time away, so I taught myself to sail from the library, checking out everything I could find on sailing, and boat life in general. Walking away from work was one of the toughest decisions I have ever made, but there is something so rewarding about fixing up a sailboat, sailing away, figuring things out and having only yourself to rely on. I have spent the last four years experiencing life. Navigating my way to different islands, monitoring weather, dealing with different Customs and Immigration offices, combating storms, meeting new people, experiencing cultures most people only read about, I even bought a little tour company in Trinidad and Tobago and brought that to life. (Hopefully one day it will be able to support me, rather than I it.) I have been back in the States now for three years and working along with two amazing start-ups, volunteering for a local youth sports program, raising Caribbean and Caribbean-America heritage awareness, and volunteering my time for the public health and safety sector as well. Beyond that I try and enjoy life back home while keeping up with my many hobbies. Photography, screenwriting, flying, sailing, camping, hiking, and snowboarding to name a few.
