I have been a small business/transactional/real estate/estate planning attorney since 1993 and a private equity real estate syndicator since 1995. After leaving GE Capital 2003, I continued my legal career remotely and, lacking overhead, have the ability to serve clients for roughly half the cost of my law-firm counterparts. My approach to any matter is practical and straightforward. I don't like wasting billable time on minutia when I can be using that time hitting golf balls. On the syndication side, my partner (Mark Goldstein) and I have raised well over $150Million of private equity and debt over my career toward aggregate acquisitions of over $500Million. I am intimately involved in the structuring and implemenation of complex investment vehicles, including multi "TIC" ventures typically resulting from 1031 sales.

What distinguishes me from many lawyers is that my professional career has straddled three distinct areas on the spectrum: medium-sized law-firm, large international corporation and small business. This gives me business and practical perspective toward the practice of law that is not shared by most of my legal peers. More importantly, as a sole-practitioner with little-to-no overhead, I can charge legal fees that are substantially less than my law-firm counterparts. Almost all of my legal work is performed on a flat-fee basis as I believe that billable hours are generally inefficient and not client-friendly.

The Tour Divide is an unsupported, off-road mountain-bike race that starts in Banff, Alberta, Canada at 8am on the second Friday of every June and covers 2,700+ miles down the Continental Divide, ending at the US/Mexico border in Antelope Wells, New Mexico. I successfully completed the race in just under 30 days and wrote a book about the adventure. 100% of sales proceeds from the book will be donated to the First Descents cancer organization.
