Beyond the Bell formed from three 21st Century Community Learning Center grants that began in January 2011. All of the grants were overseen by James Madison University and were a partnership with the Harrisonburg City Public Schools.From January 2011-June 2014, Beyond the Bell operated a network of out-of-school learning programs across three schools in Harrisonburg City (Smithland Elementary, Skyline Middle and Thomas Harrison Middle School) and served nearly 1,000 young people.With the expiration of the final of the three grants during the summer of 2014, Beyond the Bell successfully transitioned to its own 501(c)3 non-profit organization called On the Road Collaborative.

Campus Directors serve as the instructional and operational leader of campus site and manage a staff team of eight teachers, 50 volunteers and community partners and a $250,000 budget annually. • Launched new program at the Gavin Middle School (Boston) in 2006 and built broad-based support among the school administration and teachers• Authored and implemented change in program model in spring of 2008, in collaboration with the school’s principal and leadership team, that led to 50% increase in student enrollment and retention and 6% increase in daily student attendance• Achieved organizational program quality goals, including constituent satisfaction and apprenticeship quality ratings• Cultivated strategic community partnerships with Boston-based law, architecture and marketing firms, non-profit organizations and local colleges who served as volunteer Citizen Teachers, tutors and mentors to our students • Winner of Campus Director “Your Work Inspires Me” award for 2009-2010 school year from a network of 40+ Campus Directors. (June 2010)• Raised over $2,000 from 30+ donors in our organization’s annual grassroots fundraising campaign and was a top individual fundraiser in our 400+ person organization. Invested my staff team in their fundraising efforts as well. Utilized social media, storytelling and networking to exceed both individual and staff team-based fundraising goals set by the organization (Spring 2010) • Led the Boston region’s summer student recruitment and orientation week efforts. Managed a cross-organizational 20 member team along with 10+ high school interns that resulted in the recruitment of over 200+ students attending our 7 Boston campuses. Responsibility highlights included overseeing the creation of the week-long curriculum, family outreach and registration efforts and managing all aspects of a 500-person family launch event at UMASS-Boston. (Summer 2007)

Responsible for the academic and social development of a team of 15 middle school students; program and curriculum development; campus logistics and operations; facilitation of staff meetings; family engagement and community outreach efforts. • Led 18 7th grade students in a pilot, year-long community service and leadership initiative• Created and delivered 3 college awareness workshops for 150 8th graders and assisted in planning 8 college trips for 200+ 8th graders and teachers

City Year is an international non-profit that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service. Served in the Boston Public Schools teaching 3rd graders a civics-based curriculum and implementing a variety of after school activities for students. Led a team of 10-12 middle school students in a 10-week Saturday service learning program.
