Program ManagerStreet Kids International Sep 2006 - Apr 2009Street Kids International partners with youth-serving organizations around the world to deliver entrepreneurship and employment programs. As Manager of Canadian Programming I was hired to initiate this pilot project that sought to create new approaches to address youth poverty in Canada. My project was called Streetjibe - addressing youth poverty in York Region. The project brought together youth workers, teachers, mental health professionals, outreach workers to learn from each other, build new skills and increase their networking and collaboration effectiveness. We used a learning community approach based on community of practice model to support this process. To complement the learning process we used a private webspace (blog) to promote ongoing dialogue and sharing resources among members. The project demonstrated significant success in bringing about cross sector collaboration and developing new practitioner skills.
