In my role, I manage our business development team to assist area companies access resources to overcome challenges and grow in our region. We also provide support for companies from outside Greater Grand Rapids that may be considering investment and job creation in West Michigan. We are focused on three primary sectors: Advanced Manufacturing, including automotive, food/beverage, aerospace/defense and furniture production. Heath Sciences including medical devices, research and development, and health system innovations. Technology to include IT solutions, custom software, online and app development, and integrated technology products that support manufacturing, health sciences, and other sectors. I have been involved in economic development for 24 years, with diverse roles in private industry and the public/private non-profit sectors that have provided valuable experiences. I enjoy facilitating business connections both domestically and internationally, launching new initiatives and major projects. I love a challenge and like to analyze business situations and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiencies. I've been to many places around the world for work, vacation, and a military deployment:. Most often I travel to Europe but have also been to South America, Africa, the Middle East, Far East, and the other two countries in North America. I enjoy experiencing new cultures and exploring how we can develop relationships and do business together.

When Intersect was a privately funded organization, we worked very closely with site selection consultants and corporate officers, economic development partners at all levels, utilities and professional service providers to assist hundreds of companies. Many of those businesses located new or expanded operations and created thousands of jobs in Illinois during my time at Intersect. I was the number two person at the organization and lead Intersect's business development team and related activitities. The organization became a public-private partnership with unsolicited financial support from IL state government, leading to significant changes in staffing and direction.
