Growing up as an only child, videogames were the friend that I had when I was not in school. All my friends lived too far away and all the kids in my neighborhood were too old or moved away. I knew how to hold a controller for as long as I can remember, whether it was playing Super Smash Brothers on the Nintendo 64 with my cousins, or playing Crash Bandicoot by myself. What started as just a distraction grew into a lifelong hobby and grew into a way to meet new friends. In middle school video games got a whole new meaning to me when I was able to play online. Every weekend my friends and I would come home from school and play Call of Duty until the sun came up. The days of staring at the PS3 home screen with nothing to do were gone now that I had friends to play games with. The time we spent playing games turned friendship into brotherhood. During my time in high school, I did a lot of writing and it helped prepare me to write at the college level. Daily writing exercises and lessons in obtaining useful sources helped mold me into an excellent writer. I remember eagerly awaiting "Freewrite Fridays" where I would come up with an imaginative story to have read to my classmates. My skills increased when I got into college where I was able to further express my interests. I was able to write entire research papers on the effects of loot boxes in video games and write reviews for a couple of my childhood favorite games. The careful instruction of my professors not only helped nurture my passion for writing but, they allowed me to hone my skills and become a better writer. After years of struggling to figure out what I wanted to do after college, I finally found a calling. Then I was able to branch out and pick up new skills for the job market. I was able to learn to deliver impromptu, persuasive, and informational speeches. Then in my later years, I learned a little about video production as well as some skills in the Adobe creative suite.
