Senior Community Engagement Project Manager
Community Coordinator, Strong Neighborhoods Initiative
Grassroots level, community organizing position with the City of San Jose's Strong Neighborhoods Initiative. This initiative, created by San Jose's City Council, and managed by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Redevelopment Agency, identified 19 neighborhoods within the city that had been historically marginalized or underserved by the city through its myriad services. I worked in four different neighborhoods throughout my tenure, helping neighborhood groups develop and implement their community action plans through community input and action. Each neighborhood had their own action committee and my main role was to organize this group into monthly meetings during which time the main goals as outlined in the community action plan were activated and completed. As action committee members would depart, I also recruited more members from the community, always ensuring that the committee was well-represented by both individuals and key neighborhood resource groups.
Recruitment And Admissions Director
Responsible for recruiting incoming classes at the City Year location in San Jose. Worked closely with applicants to ensure alignment with the organization's service mission. At the San Jose/Silicon Valley site, many of our volunteer service locations were educational institutions, such as elementary and middle schools, and afterschool programs. Served on the leadership team and worked collaboratively with other leaders, including the program director and the executive director to make sure I recruited the ideal type of young adult that had the passion for service and the commitment to thrive for nine months learning how to work on a team and how to interact successfully with young students.
Program Coordinator
Managed the USDA Summer Food Service Program for two years for the City and County of San Francisco, which included supervising a staff of 10 field coordinators and dozens of site staff who worked together to ensure that breakfast and lunch meals were delivered to multiple sites. Worked closely with the San Francisco Unified School District and the regional USDA office staff to comply with all regulations and fiduciary responsibilities. I also worked on other special projects including an adult employment program with a focus on matching candidates from minority communities to local San Francisco employers seeking qualified applicants. Additionally, I helped launch the inaugural ambassadors program in which high school students were trained to serve as city ambassadors to help tourists find their way specific tourist hotspots that included the Union Square downtown area and the Fisherman's Wharf district.
