BArch + MBA + ScoopU: The Path from Architect to eBike Entrepreneur. Architecture:I was happiest when I coordinated: talk to the contractor and engineers in the morning, the designers and owner in the afternoon, and a city council that evening. From Atlanta to Las Vegas to Denver, I found myself in the Hospitality and Casino niche. That’s where I learned that design thinking went beyond aesthetics and deep into strategy. Technology Consultant:As we electrified our drafting, I fell in love with tweaking all that technology. Then, I found myself in Silicon Valley, designing document databases for law firms by day and assessing pre-IPO tech by night. Here was my inside peek at how VCs worked. MBA to ScoopU:9/11 was a time to retool and move away from the big city. In Fayetteville, AR, I wrote business plans and helped two friends acquire a Ben & Jerry’s franchise. Suddenly, I’m a partner and scooping ice cream in Branson. That was a crash course in running and marketing a business. Switching Gears to Marketing:Digital was becoming a big deal, and I loved it. This new passion led to Bentonville, AR, and a career in consumer packaged goods. You learn a lot working with Mom Bloggers that move million$ off the floor at Walmart.Modthink Marketing:In 2012, I started my agency. We do everything a digital agency does with a unique twist on enabling our client’s subject matter experts to be micro-influencers in their industry. I’m using all my lessons learned to help these companies succeed. The best part? As our clients grow, I meet the people they are hiring, and I see the impact they have on families and our communities.Crucible Moment:To succeed at Modthink, I gave up an active lifestyle for one behind a keyboard. Fifty extra pounds in a pandemic is… not good. To get healthy, I turned back to my love of biking. I dusted off my bike, started riding again, and hated every sweaty, wobbly, scary second. I turned to eBikes, but they were in short supply. I had a kick-butt bike already, so I taught myself how to convert it. Now I ride more, harder, farther. I lost the 50, and I feel amazing. My mission is to enable more people to ride their best lives. Greenway Bike Company:GBC is how I’m doing it. Currently, we resell kits online and convert bikes locally. As we do this, we’re rolling out enhancements to fill feature gaps. All while we’re developing our next-gen eBike tech to power our conversion kits, inframe motors, and line of eBikes.
