I manage 3 software developers in an extremely demanding environment. The team and I are responsible for all aspects of Kingspan’s telemetry from requirements gathering, specification, system analysis, design, testing, documentation and support (system and staff). At its peak some 50,000 devices were delivering data into the system each week via the PSTN, GSM SMS and GPRS (internet and VPN). MCAS• Design and coding ‘Multi-site Call Accounting System’ (MCAS) for Cable & Wireless.• Worked in conjunction with Sun Professional Services.• 4 programmers in the team.• Written using C++ using Borland C++ 5.02 and C++ Builder Professional.• The system produces and delivers telephone management reports to the Cable & Wireless WAN so customers may view their reports on the Internet. Believed to be the first system in the world to do this.Telephone Management Reports• Design and coding of Graphical Telephone Management reports for another major Telco.• Feeds a Microsoft Excel 97 system with CSV data for printing.• Written in C++ using Borland C++ 5.02 in a two-man team.RCAS• Maintenance of ‘Remote Call Accounting System’ (RCAS).• New features added; some C++ and some QBX.• Call accounting system that produces tabular reports for Barclays Bank PLC and Midland Bank PLC. • This involved a fair amount of customer liaison about technical issues and new reports.Diagnostics Software• Design and coding of diagnostic software for testing and monitoring data acquisition devices installed on site. (These devices collect raw data so that all of the above projects are possible).Sentel Independent – Help Start a New Company• Regular trips to Northern Ireland to our Sister Company, Sentel Independent Ltd. My first trip was to set up and install RCAS software on their premises and to train staff to use the software. The latter trips involved maintenance of customers’ data and backup procedures.
