I didn't always want to make video games as a career, but I have always loved playing them! Growing up, I would get in trouble for sneaking out of my bedroom into our game room to play some Goldeneye 64 or Super Smash Brothers. Now it's sneaking out of my bed with my wife to play Tomb Raider, Destiny 2 or Elder Scrolls Online 🤣.Once I started college, I wasn't enjoying my initial degrees - Mechanical Engineering and then accounting - and didn't know where to go. So I tried Digital Media Arts - not really knowing what that could lead me to. But once I reached my senior project, my life would change forever. My Advisor had me teach a game design class (with no official training btw) and I taught a small group of students how to make a simple worm third person shooter. Seeing how many different ways the students built the same game was so intriguing, I knew I wanted to pursue game design! So I applied to SMU Guildhall and ended up graduating with my Masters Degree in Level Design.I am now in quest of a role where creativity meets numbers. I have found that working as a Systems Designer for a company that makes in depth systems would be the best fit for me. Looking back on my past work in games I see a plethora of systems that I created to get the work I needed done. Whether that's creating naming conventions for the dialog in my Thesis, made in the Creation Kit or changing the base mechanics of a FPS to make it a Tower Assault game, I am always creating systems to make the process of creating the game better or making the gameplay more enjoyable.Even in my roles outside of games, I continually use the same skills of a Systems Designer to excel at completing my tasks in a productive and efficient manner.
