I head up a team at First Citizens focused on sustainable energy and infrastructure project financings, helping to scale asset owners unique to First Citizens and Silicon Valley Bank. I have a successful track record building teams, originating unique opportunities, forming strong relationships, and executing soundly using fundamental analysis in the traditional and renewable energy space. I have nearly 25 years years of experience covering both equity and debt structured transactions and relationships. On the equity side, I worked with hedge fund clientele, invested in infrastructure and energy projects, and advised buyside clientele on investments into public energy and gaming/entertainment companies. My expertise in debt transactions has ranged from venture debt/growth capital to project finance structures and facilities focused on clean and renewable infrastructure technologies. I have designed and grown a project finance business that was incubated out of the Bank’s cleantech practice started in 2009, helping scale first of its kind technologies and business models such as 2nd generation renewable molecules, fuel cells, distributed energy, and energy storage. I sourced and have helped finance some of the leading projects in the US in biofuels, fuel cells, residential solar, community solar, and solar plus storage. The SVB platform rose to a top lead syndicator in the renewable energy space. On the personal side, my wife and I experienced the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 in New Orleans which led me to Silicon Valley Bank, who was a pioneer in debt financing the cleantech industry. One of the most destructive hurricanes, Katrina to me was a wake-up call in terms of climate related black swans and a risk. I subsequently moved to Colorado and now Texas to work on driving decarbonized tech and business models forward from a financing perspective.
