About Bret Mogilefsky

A natural leader and pragmatic optimist who thinks about processes and systems at an architectural level, and excels at aligning people and technology to solve big problems. A tech industry veteran with 25 years’ experience in the video game industry, 23 years in web- and cloud-based application development, 16 years in management, 15 years in applying user-centered design and agile development methods, I've had roles including product manager, system architect, product owner, development manager, program manager, mentor, and customer-facing tackle-dummy. In previous roles I've been a web developer, a support manager, a graphics researcher, a game engine programmer, and a game designer.I'm a lifelong learner who voraciously consumes, shares, and implements new ideas. I love to think about processes and systems at an architectural level. I span between the technical and business worlds and communicate equally well in either, from coding sessions to executive strategy meetings.I'm an agile change agent who's driven and evangelized adoption of agile methods including Scrum, Kanban, and various related frameworks through the activities of my teams. I've raised the profile of design and user experience company-wide and incorporated Lean UX practices into my team's development methods. I've successfully transitioned teams of cowboy coders into XP-practicing machines that confidently deliver valuable changes for our users.Current "hot topics" for me:* Climate!* PaaS: Public/Private cloud management, Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, internal platforms generally* Architecture: service decoupling, microservices, DDP* Agile: Wardley Mapping, Team Topologies, adaptable ALM* Technology in service of the public good, social entrepreneurship, social enterprise, B Corporations

I co-launched a new product portfolio that included brownfield and greenfield system development, bringing structure to front-office operations by introducing agile product portfolio management techniques. While acting as the technical and compliance authority for internal and external stakeholders including the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), I performed in a coaching and oversight role, providing expert assistance and pinch-hitting for five programs across product, security, technical, and operational domains. This work was a showpiece for the operational, security, and compliance benefits of using TTS products together (including "my" cloud.gov Platform, cloud.gov Pages, login.gov, USWDS, analytics.data.gov, and search.gov). Along the way I extended the cloud.gov Platform with additional services using Terraform and Kubernetes, and improved the state of the art for compliance practices across the organization.
