During my time with BHP I gained exposure to the BHP Coal asset planning cycle, the JORC Reserving and reconciliation process, cultural and safety systems and undertook planning and scheduling activities across the BHP Coal business.I developed and enhanced the relationship between Poitrel site personnel and the resource engineering team in the Brisbane office, conducted Field Leadership activities and undertook numerous training courses and programs to enhance my personal development and my ability to add value to the organisation exampled by my secondment to Poitrel as the Production Planning Superintendent to cover periods of extended absences.My major responsibilities were: the reserving of the Poitrel deposit; evaluating Opportunity Assessments for the LOA; completing the 5YP-2YB and LOA for Poitrel; and transitioning mid and long-term schedules to the Deswik software package. In addition to these I was the CP for Poitrel JORC Reserve reporting , conducted option evaluations of alternate mining strategies, equipment profiles and shift rosters for Poitrel and assisted with value adding projects such as the Poitrel Levee study, Daunia L1 wasting strategy and Daunia/Poitrel XJV project.

Over the 7 1/2 years as a Principal Mining Consultant with OMS I worked on numerous open cut coal projects along with some limited experience in open cut gold operations. Much of the work associated with the coal operations incorporated medium to long term planning and scheduling using Vulcan, Minescape, Xpac, 3D-Dig and Deswik. My primary focus was on truck and shovel operations and during the past 12 months I have gained exposure to dragline operations.In addition to the planning and scheduling work I also had significant experience in mine simulation optimisation processes using the Wolverine programs GPSS/H and Proof. Major projects included: simulation of mine supply chain from pit to port via CHPP plant and rail line; simulation of entire mine site to determine optimal mining sequence, stockpile size and CHPP upgrade requirements; and the simulation of individual pits to determine optimal mining sequence in order to match specific customer coal requirements across multiple customers.

Assisted in the development and testing of the in-house software package – OptiHaul. OptiHaul is the next generation short to medium term mine planning software for truck and shovel optimisation. It is a simulation package that allows mining organisations to increase production efficiency and reduce production costs. Utilising an advanced CAD interface, multiple dig/dump scenarios are generated and fully simulated and costed in either of OptiHaul's two operating modes: Evaluation Mode or Target Mode.

As a business analyst in the Technical Systems team I was actively involved in the Technical Systems Programme to standardise and align business unit reporting using common underlying source systems feeding into a global data warehouse as well as the Rio Tinto Business Solution (SAP).My role incorporated using much of the practical knowledge gained in almost ten years of mining experience to assist in the development of practical and functional reports for the benefit of site users in order to obtain a standardised suite of reports for business analysis and decision making purposes. The development of these reports was based on a common underlying methodology of agility, being responsive to change and having a strong customer focus in order to provide timely, cost effective and value driven reports using the most effective current visual design techniques.

CRL’s NSI Operations use a combination of sand dredging and dry mining methods to recover predominately rutile, zircon and ilmenite. This role incorporated LOM planning, mine path optimisation, budgeting, project evaluation and reporting, tails scheduling, preparation of board reports and supervision of medium-term planning Engineers in order to maintain the profitability, sustainability and growth of the company. In conjunction with Business Analysts, I developed tools for the planning and reporting of mining operations and the monitoring of the company’s financial performance. As mining engineer supervised dry mining contract, design of dry mining pits and planning of dry mining activities. Responsibilities included preparation of plans for Plan of Operations and budgets and various other project works.

Duties for HWE included relief Project Manager, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer, assisting the Mine Foreman with daily co-ordination of mining activities including enforcing HWE’s safety standards and policies, actively attending Occupational Health and Safety meetings and assisting with the administration of the mining alliance between Lion Ore and HWE.Upon Lion Ore’s decision to go owner operator transferred from HWE to Lion Ore. Duties included Senior Mining Engineer responsible for preparation of quarterly and monthly mining schedules, end of month reports, KPI analysis, co-ordination of weekly mining plans and Duties included Senior Mining Engineer responsible for preparation of quarterly and monthly mining schedules, end of month reports, KPI analysis, co-ordination of weekly mining plans and schedules, planning and supervision of all “I-Kon” blasts, mine design projects, managing sub-contractors involved with various mine projects and supervising numerous staff including Pitram administrators and ventilation, projects and drill and blast engineers.Also responsible for assisting in the implementation and ongoing management of the PitRAM mine control package and reporting database and was actively involved in the Business Management Improvement process which included the development of new management systems and procedures. Once fully operational this program assisted with the daily running and control of the mine as well as providing detailed operational reports.

Kundana was an underground gold mine which used a combination of uphole and downhole longhole stoping with downhole panels backfilled with consolidated waste fill.Duties included preparation of short term plans and monthly schedules, work instructions, contractor supervision, drill and blast design, recording of daily production data, supervision of daily production to ensure targets were met and preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports. Other responsibilities included ventilation officer responsible for all ventilation reports and testing, minor mine design, supervision of service crew and acting as relief shift supervisor when required. I was also involved in the selection and review process for the setting up of preferred supplier agreements for explosives and drill consumables

At Miitel responsibilities included assisting Project Manager and Mine Foreman with day to day running of mine and contract, analysis of project performance, preparation of payroll, daily reports, progress claims, contract variations and end of month reports. Required to act as relief shift boss and Mine Foreman in Mine Foreman’s absence.Assisted in initial set-up of Wannaway mine including design and implementation of a reporting system and other systems for the monitoring of contract progress as well as implementation of preferred supplier agreements in an effort to reduce site costs. Other duties included preparation of payroll, daily reports, progress claims, contract variations and end of month reports

Kundana (Kalgoorlie) responsibilities included assisting the Project Manager with contract management, preparation of monthly financial progress claims, reports project forecasting and scheduling, development of safe work procedures for new methods of work, payroll preparation and stores control. Kalgoorlie office responsibilities included assisting the Manager with running of branch office and various contractual matters. Also responsible for monthly reporting, financial forecasting and financial performance analysis of alimak, shotcrete and diamond drilling divisions.At Yilgarn Star (Southern Cross) seconded to Sons of Gwalia to obtain mine planning and design experience. Role incorporated stope and ring design, scheduling and planning of weekly mining activities, preparation of charge plans and work instructions. Additional duties included assisting with the implementation of a PED blasting system including automatic fan shutdowns and delayed fan start-ups.At Radio Hill (Karratha) responsibilities included underground operator, contract management, longhole drill and blast design, budgeting and forecasting, scheduling and optimisation of equipment and labour. Also responsible for preparation of reports (daily, weekly and monthly), preparing safe work procedures, assisting the Project Manager with site responsibilities and acting as Relief Project Manager when required.
