About Brett Garris
Originally from West Virginia, my journey began when my college soccer team went on a relief trip to Puerto Rico for Hurricane Maria. This propelled me to AmeriCorps, where I completed multiple terms of service on top of a range of disaster response missions. These experiences ignited a deep passion for emergency management and instilled in me a strong commitment to serving local communities.Coming out of the COVID-19 response, I strengthened my technical wring abilities through plan maintenance and then transitioned into leading trainings and exercises, where I could leverage my real-world experiences to educate and prepare others. My role evolved to include the analysis of emergency management systems to enhance operational readiness on a regional scale. I take pride in my ability to analyze and improve processes and procedures, ensuring that they are effective and efficient for the needs of the communities they/we serve.I attribute my success in the field to my optimistic and extroverted nature, tied to a hunger for new challenges. I thrive in environments that require teamwork and collaboration, bringing together diverse groups of stakeholders to achieve common goals. In the world of emergency management, being team-oriented is crucial, and this is a culture where I truly belong and excel.
