I develop the curriculum, reach out to local organizations to plan excursions, and hire/manage staff. I focus on professional development, and education. Chewonki is focused on the environment, and is a great example of what sustainable agriculture and energy can realistically look like - part of our curriculum for camp is exposing campers to these concepts and practices.

I would train and manage 5-60 temporary staff, and a team of 5-7 part time servers. I was responsible for the successful delivery of high quality Food & Beverage service.Frequently, I managed multiple events at the same time, and managed the Food & Beverage for conferences, military balls, and many other event types up to 2,500 people at once.

Cleaned, identified and sorted samples of sea grasses by location and reproductive state. I processed biomass samples by labeling, recording, and separating them into the appropriate spreadsheets and containers. I used sensitive laboratory equipment and followed procedures to ensure sterility of all samples and equipment.

Recorded measurements of vital instruments and systems throughout the hatchery, performed backwashing on essential systems, and corrected or noted errors. I sorted live/dead oysters, corrected biofouling on mollusc and equipment, cleaned/sanitized silos and holding tanks, and cleared items from the bleach baths.Laboratory duties included measuring veliger larva sizes and assessing the density of trochophore larva by using a hemocytometer, assessing the axenic algal cultures for contaminants, and recording data on larval growth. Field-work activities included deploying and gathering the floating cages which contained the stock population in the grow-out phase from the estuary farm.

I created and presented an educational program based on Coral Reefs for an audience of all ages. I led educational programs which consisted of feeding narrations, animal encounters, and behind the scene tours which focused on increasing the audience's knowledge of specific animal groups and human impact on aquatic environments.Trained and managed volunteers on different interactive stations and oversaw station transfer.Collaborated with the diving team and the aquaculture team to ensure that the organisms in the displays were healthy and were properly enclosed at the end of the day.

Our team monitored the New River and connecting creeks for pollution and contamination of human made chemicals and E coli levels, maintained 8 YSI’s, two floating aeration units, and all benthic sampling equipment.We frequently performed benthic sampling and surveyed native fish/crustacean populations using various methods and assisted Sturgeon City Summer Camps with their educational environmental activities - these included sein netting, river cleanups, animal identification, and dissections.Landscaping and management of city-owned retention ponds, runoff drains, and intracity marsh habitats.

I was a camp counselor for the 13-14 year old age group, and taught white water kayaking. We frequently kayaked the French Broad, and got to go down an 8 mile stretch of the Nolichucky!
