www.brettheidi.comPainter of western themes, farm animals and wildlife. Coming from a family that was immersed in art I spent most of my youth learning basic techniques in drawing and sketching, as well as in painting oil, acrylic, and watercolour. I often participated and won local and international art contests. During my teen years I typically had side jobs doing custom portraits and book illustrations. Into my 20's I was employed in office administration and production scheduling for an oil and gas fabrication company, however I usually had art requests happening on the side. In time I switched to working remotely and part-time, doing various small businesses in order to live abroad and develop my creative business, which is now my primary occupation!Growing up in a quaint farming community, I've developed respect for animals, appreciation for the simple beauty in life, and an awe for nature's unchanging beauty. Along with my husband I continue to soak in the vistas that Alberta is abundant in. The incredible view of the Rocky Mountains that are preceded by farm fields and rolling foothills, the charm of out neighboring city Calgary with it's unique skyline back dropped by the Rockies and that hosts the winding Bow River. Just an hour west is a mountainous oasis, Banff National Park where I find inspiration for my forest animal pieces and mountain scenes. Having had the opportunity to live in Mexico for 6 years and absorb some it's culture and colour has also added to my perspectives and creative process. Since 2014 I have developed an individual style that has been by identified by large impressionistic brushstrokes and the use of vivid luminous colour. My approaches to a painting is with more than just "to paint a subject", but to discover the story in a subject or the feeling of an occasion and convey it visually. I stumble upon inspiration by chance, in daily life I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of nature, the intrigue of connections between animals, as well as relationships between people and what makes it all fall into harmony.Yearly exhibitions of original works include the Calgary Stampede Art Show, Spruce Meadows Masters, Pure West Art Auction & Diony Distillery & Gallery.
