About Brett Jasper
My initial career and workplace training was with the Royal Australian Navy where I served on four major fleet units as well as a range of shore postings with a variety of roles and responsibilities. Managing departments of up to 40 personnel, my time with the Navy forged a foundation of attitude, attributes and skills that remain with me today.I then worked as an Accountant specialising in Tax for a period before an opportunity arose in the financial planning industry as a Compliance Consultant. Initially travelling and auditing Financial Planners on site, I soon progressed to helping businesses establish their own Australian Financial Services licence (AFSL) and guiding and mentoring Responsible Managers in the day to day running and maintenance of those AFSLs, ensuring licence conditions were understood and those businesses met their obligations to ASIC in holding those licences.I later took advantage of an opening with Count Financial Ltd to help develop the Compliance function within that business heading up a small team of Professionals. Reporting directly to the business Legal Counsel and Head of Risk I was engaged in a range of activities that included Mentor and SME to the two other Compliance orientated departments within the business, liaison and reporting with Regulators (ASIC/AUSTRAC/APRA), Customer Complaints Handling, Risk and Compliance Forum member, Approved Product List Forum member, preparing papers and reporting to the Board etc. During my time at Count the Commonwealth Bank procured that business where I remained the next two years in transitioning over the functions and responsibilities to more role centric and focussed business units within the Bank. That subsequently brought me to BT Financial Advice (Westpac) where I took over the establishment of a newly created Remediation and Assurance role. The BT business sought to have an independent SME that could guide the various advice business units in the proper Remediation of concerns identified by the inhouse Investigation team, and then subsequently provide Assurance over those activities and produce Reports for Legal, Risk and Senior Management to form conclusions with. In my time in the role I prescribed documented procedures and developed processes, tools, and templates to facilitate and record such activity. The Remediation Assurance function is now a recognised team of SME’s integral to the Advice Channels efforts to ensure all clients have received appropriate advice.
Listed skills include Financial Advisory, Strategic Financial Planning, Superannuation, Investments, and 6 others.
