I have spent more than 20 years as a media and communications professional in both Sydney and London, starting my career as a sports journalist before going on to work in high-performance and professional sporting organisations, the community not-for-profit sector and government.I have previously managed media and communications responsibilities for Surf Life Saving NSW (2005-2008), NSW Rugby (including NSW Waratahs, Shute Shield, etc 2008-2011) and GB Snowsport (2017-2019 incorporating 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games). Prior to these roles I worked in the Olympic News Service in the lead up and during the Sydney 2000 Games and forged a career as a journalist and editor of Australian Rugby Review magazine.My current role at Transport for NSW revolves around co-managing a team which provides media and the public with timely, accurate travel information in response to planned events and unplanned incidents across the transport network. These briefings covered a range of planned and unplanned events including the Martin Place Lindt Cafe Siege in 2014, the permanent closure of Sydney’s George Street in 2015, major flood and fire events and other major incidents which have caused a major impact to Sydney’s or the state’s road and transport network.I regularly represented the TMC at the Government Coordination Centre during hallmark events such as Sydney New Year’s Eve and the Sydney Running Festival (Sydney Marathon) working alongside NSW Police, event organisers, and the Department of Premier & Cabinet to ensure the event runs smoothly and any reactive communications requirements were dealt with swiftly and completely. -

Media ManagerWaratahs Rugby (Nsw Waratahs) Jan 2008 - Oct 2011Moore ParkMy role at the NSWRU related to the entire media operation at the Waratahs, while providing support for all other levels of the sport at a participation and community level.I was responsible for the overarching media strategy for the organisation, working with senior management and the commercial team (marketing/sponsorship) to ensure we remained aligned with our corporate partners. I worked closely with team management, coaching staff and senior players in order to provide an operational framework which met the needs of the media, broadcasters, sponsors and other key stakeholders while not hindering the ability of the team to prepare and perform at the highest level. This included the organisation of all press conferences and media opportunities.When the need arose, I worked with the Board, CEO and Australian Rugby Union media department on any required crisis communications. These were largely off-field discipline-related issues with players which required swift and transparent action while minimising any negative impact to the sport, team, sponsors and other key stakeholders.I authored all media releases for the organisation was responsible for producing the annual report and provided support for other key communications including executive speech notes and sponsorship proposals. I also produced video, audio and photographic material for the media’s use, particularly when travelling abroad with the team.I worked closely with the broadcaster to ensure match-day media requirements were met, controlled the media accreditation process and managed the press box and photographers at home games. At team meetings I would directly brief the playing group off our upcoming media requirements and provided briefings and training as necessary. I also worked closely with Onion Media on the production of the eight-part documentary series “The Code: Life with the HSBC Waratahs” which followed the 2011 Super Rugby season and was broadcast internationally. -
Media & Communications OfficerSurf Life Saving Nsw 2005 - 2008NarrabeenSurf Life Saving is Australia's major water safety, drowning prevention and rescue organisation, and Surf Life Saving New South Wales (SLSNSW) is the largest state organisation, now boasting over 74,000 members making it one of the largest volunteer organisations in the country.I joined SLSNSW in 2005 as the organisation’s first full-time media and communications officer, a role which had previously been performed by honorary press officers or the marketing department. I quickly established a series of processes which brought the organisation’s communications goals in line with the national body (Surf Life Saving Australia – SLSA) and worked with sponsors to ensure their needs were being met.I worked with the CEO on government grant submissions, established relationships with the electronic media and print newsrooms, organised season launches involving the Minister for Sport & Recreation, managed all media operations and accreditation at major surf sports events, coordinated internal communications to 129 surf clubs and supported all other departments, particularly lifesaving and marketing.Following the 2005 Cronulla riots, I worked closely with the national body in establishing and promoting ‘On the Same Wave’, a high-profile program focused on engaging young Australians of Middle Eastern backgrounds to achieve greater harmony amongst all beach users. Celebrating Surf Life Saving’s centenary, 2007 was declared ‘Year of the Surf Lifesaver’ by the Federal Government, with much of the organisation’s activity in 2006 and 2007 revolving around promoting this occasion to its members and the Australian public. I received an award from the SLSA President for my work promoting this celebration and also co-authored ‘Evolution of an Icon: 100 Years of Surf Lifesaving in NSW’. -
