About Brett Barker

I am an adaptable team member, and servant leader with a diverse set of skills that can be used to lead or support teams as needed. My time in Quality Assurance and Software Testing taught me not only to identify issues, but to work to identify the issue as early as possible in the creation process, to avoid the extreme waste of needing to fix the issue after it happens.I initially led a small QA team (6), where I rapidly increased productivity and issue resolution. From there, I managed a larger QA team (20) and was eventually responsible for Operations for the entire QA department. During my time in QA Operations, I learned how to manage larger groups, was involved with several process improvement programs, implementation of Agile practices, overhauling the training program to reduce time from hire to useful testing from 4 months to 3 weeks, and the hiring of all new testers in the department. Concurrently, I created a 9-week course on Software Testing for Utah Valley University’s Adult Education program, which I continue to teach. This program has a job placement rate of 80%+ for course graduates.When given the opportunity I followed my desires to develop and teach others, and to continue to work closely with my mentor, to help build the new Learning and Development team. We focused on management training, coaching others for growth, internal process improvement, and seeking continual feedback. I am skilled in performing complex management tasks, conflict and communication resolution, the process of building a great mentor relationship, coaching, and training.I am looking to use these skills and am excited to be able to learn new skills, in a role where I can continue to help the people around me grow as I grow myself.
