Wrote Modbus drivers, various measurement and networking software for flow-meters, weighscales, power meters, PLCs and other industrial applications. Created a DOS-based SCADA system called OSDAC which help pushed the PC into the SCADA domain.

Worked in this family-run commercial general construction management company from age 11 summer vacation onward, starting with a broom and wheel-barrow cleaning up the job site, working through the various trades and roles on a commercial construction project, especially rough carpentry, and onward to estimating, project planning, on-site superintendant, and project management duties. In addition to construction management capabilities, a lifetime of interest and practice in building has given competence at the actual handiwork of virtually every aspect of building a house, from the architectural, structural, heating/cooling and functional design as well as the practical skills of framing, cribbing and concrete, plumbing and HVAC, electrical work, roofing, doors and windows and skylights, interior finishing, soffits, fascia and eavestroughs, masonry, millwork, stonework, tilesetting, cabinetry and also the techniques of building with strawbales. Working for my father at Lear taught me not only many construction and construction management skills, but also instilled the fierce and independent determination and unshakable 'buck-stops-here' accountability needed to be responsible for a successful business.
