My work has always been about managing people and assets to serve customers and generate a return. My beginnings were simpler. I loved anything to do with space or making things. My education was dedicated to this end, and I pursued a degree in engineering. My first job was at Boeing working on satellite systems. It was an amazing experience for a young engineer, and I learned that software really made all the hardware work.I left hard engineering for software and became a software consultant. I saw that really good engineers help other engineers create products. This led me to managing teams on consulting engagements. After a few years of this, Boeing got rid of is Computer Services division. I needed a new home.I loved what I was doing and took this as a sign to start my own software consulting company with a good friend. Emerson Kennedy was born. Enter Microsoft, others, and the tech boom, and projects and teams were endless. It was great fun. I was young with lots of energy. Some years later and I was ready to slow down. (I burned out a bit.) I’d met a few people that invested in real estate over the years and I was curious. Once I’d rested and recovered, dabbled in homes and apartments toward the end of the 90s while I kept a hand on Emerson Kennedy. My focus shifted completely to my real estate business through the 2000s and branched into real estate investment. I quickly saw that the success of property was the same as software – people. Life is about people and sharing experiences. Business is about delivering an experience (to both employees and customers). If it’s a good one, they don’t leave, and that makes all the difference.
