During my third semester studying Computer Science at the University of Maryland, I joined the Engineering Digital Service as a Software Engineer, contributing to the development of Pinpoint, a lab management web app for makerspaces across campus. The application was struggling to meet stakeholder expectations, fulfill feature requirements, and stay on schedule. After working on the team for two semesters, I was asked to lead the team, a position I held for four semesters until I graduated.As team lead, I implemented strategic changes to address the challenges I observed as a lower level engineer. I introduced a formal Agile process, incorporating sprints, milestones, and planning meetings, which boosted developer productivity by 400%. Collaborating with 8 stakeholders, I updated and refined the feature requirements, and led a comprehensive redesign of the app's backend and RESTful API using SQLAlchemy, Python, and Flask. Additionally, I led an overhaul of the app's frontend, leveraging modern React principles, OAuth 2.0, and CAS.Over 3 semesters, I guided a team of up to 12 members to develop a fully functional product, building on the initiatives and actions I took to improve the team. In the 4th semester, I led the successful deployment of Pinpoint in 5 labs across campus, resulting in over 2,800 user accounts and 1,300 individual lab sessions tracked within 3 months.

During my internship at Appian I collaborated closely with a team of 6 engineers, another intern, and a product owner to successfully launch an internal platform for company documentation. This platform reduced the time it took for engineers to search for company documentation by a factor of up to 10 times. I leveraged my skills with Typescript and React to build this platform.I also addressed critical infrastructure improvements while working on the platform. I worked with Kubernetes to create persistent storage for our application, and redesigned the existing Kubernetes deployment to make the project scalable and highly available, reducing downtime and increasing reliability. Our development process was carefully organized using Agile development methods, in addition to Git version control.While at Appian I had the opportunity of participating in a 4-day Intern Hackathon. I worked with a dynamic team of 5 other interns to create an innovative AI chatbot designed to answer questions about Appian's low-code platform, using publicly available documentation. We achieved this by implementing a vector similarity search to find the most relevant documentation for a user's query, and then used a Language Learning Model to produce a response based on the provided documentation.

At BlueHalo I gained real-world, full-stack software engineering experience on an Agile Scrum team of 8 other developers. I worked with frontend technologies including Typescript, Angular, CSS and HTML, and Javascript, Mongo, and Express for the backend of our web app. I also gained some exposure to Scala and the Actor programming model (Akka). During my internship, I was treated as a full-time employee. I actively participated in sprint planning meetings, ticket creation, and idealizing new features. I worked directly with full-time developers on tickets that contributed to production features and got exposure to lots of exciting technologies and took initiative to learn them. I was expected to meet strict code quality standards and adhere to the expectations of our customer.
