Profile bio

About Brett Norris

I truly believe my soul purpose is to guide, empower and inspire others to achieve their greatest potential and live their best life. After two years as a certified personal trainer, I left behind general fitness training to focus on improving my end-stage rehab, movement, and mindset coaching skills. This drive to change was due to my journey of major injury, surgery and depression, which highlighted a need for a supportive approach that looked beyond the symptoms to address the physical, emotional and psychological factors contributing to recovery.Since 2008, I have supported over one thousand men and women in twenty countries, developing skills such as postural restoration, neuromuscular re-education, emotional intelligence, injury recovery strategies and identifying/reframing limiting beliefs to move, think and generally feel better. To improve my ability to help people navigate physical recovery, I have used several biomechanical and neurological approaches, such as Functional Movement Screening (FMS), Applied Functional Movement Science (CAFS), Anatomy in Motion (AiM), and Brain-Based Exercise (AMN Academy).Whilst I don't religiously follow one particular system, I have taken inspiration from many systems and added them to my own learnings and experiences.I have been influenced by physiotherapists, psychotherapists, neuroscientists, and physicians, such as Louis Gifford, David Grey, Gary Ward, Lorimer Moseley, Alan Gordon, Perry Nickelston, and Gabor Mate, who have helped me understand many aspects of gait, movement, trauma, and pain psychology.I provide the following:- 1:1 Recovery Coaching: support physical recovery, strength and conditioning.- Movement Assessments: Understand the root causes of physical symptoms and create an actionable recovery plan.- Workshops & Group Coaching: Educate on topics such as injury psychology, movement literacy, and building self-efficacy.- VIP Intensives: single-day coaching focused on breakthrough insights and strategies for lasting recovery.- Mentorship: suited to individuals who want to gain body autonomy while recovering from physical restrictions over 6 - 12 months.- Motivational Speaking on Physical Recovery & Mindset: Insightful talks designed to inspire audiences on strategies for overcoming physical symptoms, embracing a full body approach to recovery, and creating lasting change. This is ideal for conferences, corporate wellness events, and group seminars focused on health, wellness and personal development.

Personal Training Manager

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Within this role I was responsible for all new member consultations, movement screenings and onboarding with their respective PT Specialist.I led a team of 30 Personal Trainers and monitored their progress with clients and compliance to our programming software (Trainerize).Worked in coordination with the sales team to better organise the distribution of new members to the Personal Trainer but suited to their goals.Contributed to the role out K8 which linked in-house specialists together to provide the ultimate wellness journey for clients including physio, end stage rehab, personal training, body transformation, nutrition and sports.

May 2019 - Dec 2019

Rehab & Movement Specialist

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Within this role I was tasked to deliver 150 hours of coaching each month.I made it my mission to raise awareness of the importance of body awareness and movement competency within programming, which included educating clients about the importance of all systems that help us better control and coordinate movement (vestibular, visual, nervous etc.)Due to the high volume of clients I worked with, I achieved some of my greatest results to date, particularly with clients who were coming to me after physio but were still not confident to undergo a traditional strength and conditioning programme or were still experiencing ongoing discomfort. My greatest takeaway from this part of my career was the importance of creating a positive environment and experience for each and every client. It's incredible how an individual can blossom within the right environment.Upon leaving Fit Republik, I saw 101 clients and delivered 2265 1:1 sessions and multiple workshops on the importance of movement screening before programming.

Human Performance Consultant

Brettnorris.Co

Reading, United Kingdom

Beginning with a Functional Movement Screen, clients enter the ICCA Master Training Pathway at Phase 1 or Phase 2. ICCA is the acronym for Identify, Correct, Create, Achieve. The ICCA Master Training Pathway is flexible in its design, so it can be individualised to the client, as there is no one approach to improving human movement and performance. Phase 1 consists of helping clients overcome muscular/joint discomfort and/or reduced joint range of movement/control. The sole aim here is to improve movement quality, removing any outlying dysfunction, or asymmetries.Phase 2 teaches the client how to build greater strength, enhance physical performance and reduce risk of future injury. The overall aim of Phase 1 & 2, above and beyond helping the client feel and move better, is to empower them to understand their body and take charge of their progress in the long-term.My continued quest for greater knowledge through podcasts, books, videos, mentorships and general networking, led to the formation and delivery of the premium service that is the ICCA Master Training Pathway.I created the ICCA Master Training Pathway to fill the void between therapy and physical performance. My idea to create this system came from my own experiences after undergoing an ACL (knee ligament) reconstruction in 2008, as well as the clear requirement amongst the general public for a service that cares and attends to their individual needs for their long-term benefit.

It is our belief that to create sustainable success we must take you from subconscious incompetence to conscious incompetence to conscious competence to subconscious competence. This means that we are performing everyday tasks with efficient technique without having to consciously think - this in turn will reduce injury risk and enhance performance and/or lifestyle. We start from scratch by assessing your movement for dysfunctions, asymmetries, instabilities, and compensations (i.e. dominating through one side). We educate you as to why these 'issues' are in need of correcting, how we will go about training you and what you will become at the end (i.e. the realisation of your objective(s)). After the initial assessment we can focus on uncovering the cause(s) to the issues identified with the inclusion of corrective exercises and personalised training regime. We want you to come to us because you believe in what we believe, because you feel we can provide the answer to your objective or issue.
