One of my first memories was riding in the rumble seat of my grandparent's Ford Model A. On weekends, we would explore roads all over Colorado. This has brought about a personal passion for restoring old cars, jukeboxes, and maybe an old airplane or two.That's my "analog" life.My "digital" life is just as exciting. It started when I served in US Navy submarines. There I learned the power of technology and the personal power of dedication and tenacity. I began to relentlessly pursue knowledge. Looking back the Navy was also key in teaching me how to problem solve. I remember an old Navy Chief beating into us, “take a fresh look at the problem. Don’t get fooled into believing the easy answer.”Soon after leaving the Navy, I started focusing on software development. I worked throughout the Real Estate business, building systems and learning the industry. I worked my way up from a junior developer all the way to president of my own software company.Now I’m focusing on teaching and finishing my PhD. I love helping students realize their potential and navigate their next steps. In my PhD, I’m researching Machine Learning Explainability. It’s a huge topic with lots of implications for the future.
