Drivers get trusted referrals from their social circles and Carvoyant according to their own preferences. The apps and service record scanning are free and diagnostics come via hardware available from Carvoyant and others. Strategic business development and product management roles covering multiple group companies in the Americas, Asia and Europe. ASSA ABLOY’s federated structure, partners and distribution provided a uniquely broad view of product development, manufacturing and distribution in a range of markets.Recruited as a business development consultant for traditional hardware distributors seeking to include emerging security technologies. This covered multiple group companies over the eastern third of the United States. To create a coherent offering from internal teams, acquired resources and roadmap projects, I conceived the Intelligent Openings Strategy. Coining the term, writing the white paper and leading a highly collaborative effort to build support led to the creation of a coordinating position as Intelligent Openings Business Development and Product Manager. This was a “pathfinder” role until the effort could grow into more traditional business development and product management structures. This traditional, food-focused farmer's market in the downtown area of Longleaf, Fl, is one of my proudest accomplishments. It was so far afield from my other experiences, surprisingly difficult, and connected my family to our community and people in a way that I could never have anticipated. In 2005 we moved from Long Beach, CA, to Longleaf, a "traditional neighborhood" just outside Tampa. It's a great area but we really missed the supply of fresh foods at all the community farmer's markets in Southern California. Somewhat quixotically, we thought the easiest/best way to scratch that itch was to start a farmer's market. After several false starts with property owners, permitting, vendors, promotion, scheduling and consumers we managed to get a really good community market established. In conjunction with Pam Marron and with the outstanding support of Frank Starkey the Longleaf Market grew through several seasons to become a regular part of the community from September to April. In anticipation of our fourth child, we handed over day to day operations during the 2009-2010 season. The market ended early this season as the new managers expanded other ventures but the community expects the market back when Florida's harvests begin again in fall.

Long Beach, Ca

This division focused on large campus systems, such universities, healthcare and corporate headquarters. We provided a unified security, identity and transaction infrastructure for large populations. Building on the same transaction platform technology used for the Automatic Teller Machine network, we discovered that overlaying a range of identity transactions, at scale, creates very strong network effects for clients. Even deeper, analytics on the datasets of very different transaction types showed unexpected opportunities.Alongside the large scale systems development, I oversaw the integration of a variety of third party systems and hardware. I also had my first direct responsibility for embedded systems design and hardware development. Just before I left to move to Florida, I launched the first embedded Linux access control panel built on off the shelf hardware.

Tallahassee, Florida Area

CyberMark was one of the first large scale smart card systems integrators in North America. The company grew quickly and for several years was the leader in new deployments of campus identity systems. Among the milestones I participated in was first onsite issuance of VISA branded campus identity cards, the development of a secure, anonymous e-voting application and the largest non-govermental sale of cryptographic smart cards at the time.Although a great team, CyberMark also provided very valuable object lessons about the importance of consistent executive vision tied very closely to product development and customer observation. At the end of 2000, Diebold recruited me to Southern California as the lead on their campus smart card and PKI research.

I oversaw operations of the rehab practice, the startup of a wound card clinic and miscellaneous projects like early research into intranet deployments. I left to join a startup smart card company, Tritheim, Inc.

To the best of my knowledge, RehabLinks.com was the first professional portal on the web. Co-founded with my brother, Craig, our goal was to gather all the relevant links for physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists in one location. We charged recruiters for job listings and posting continuing education courses. When Medicare changed their reimbursement model, our revenues tanked. Great lessons learned about mechanics of getting a new offering out to market. Painful lessons about cash flow and capital.

Being a very early participant provided my first solid view of the challenges and rewards of growing a startup. I had the privilege of working with a team that cranked out a string of "firsts" in a very short amount of time: demonstrating the first internet reload of legal US tender on a VisaCash card, the first PC/SC Certified Reader, and a patent that is now used in all US set top boxes. Tritheim was acquired by Publicard in 1998. That acquisition provided a vesting opportunity and I was recruited to join one of Tritheim's largest customers, CyberMark.
