Key primary health care coordinating body for our region. Established to promote the health and well-being of people in the Region:- Facilitating improved liaison between General Practitioners and other primary health care providers and other areas of the health care system;- Ensuring the effective integration of General Practice and other primary health care with other elements of the health care system;- Enabling General Practitioners and other primary health care providers to contribute to health planning at the local level;- Providing better access to available and appropriate General Practitioner and other primary health care provider services for patients and reducing inappropriate duplication of services; meeting the special (and localised) health needs of groups (such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and those with non-English speaking backgrounds) or people with chronic conditions, particularly where these needs are not adequately addressed by the current health system;- Facilitating the advancement of General Practice and other primary health care;- Enhancing educational and professional development opportunities for General Practitioners and other primary health care providers, medical undergraduates, and allied health practitioners;- Facilitating increased General Practitioner and other primary health care providers focus on illness prevention, health promotion activities and research; and- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health services in the Region.
