The Fox Cities-Kurgan Global Partnership is a 501(c)3 global health and security nonprofit that launched between the United States and rural Russia in 1986. Founded as a small Sister Cities program, it grew into one of the most active development organizations working between the two countries in the early 2000s. The partnership worked with funders and governments to build hospitals, equip clinics, train police, open a domestic violence shelter, and start magazines, in addition to coordinating a multinational effort that in 2012 completed the deconstruction of Russia’s largest chemical weapon stockpile.Over the course of 10 years, I held every single role in the organization, from intern webmaster to board member to Executive Director, contributing to projects including rule of law training, social services development in women's rights and children's wellness, global education and arts, and chemical weapons disarmament. I learned more than I ever dreamed possible through a few experiences here:🌏 I regularly lived and worked in rural Siberia, creating a second home in a city on the other side of the planet, learning Russian to professional proficiency and developing strong working relationships with business and government leaders in both countries.💰 After 23 years of US-only funding, I led a redesign of fundraising to achieve first-ever 1:1 parity in Russian and US funding⤴ Led a two-year organizational transformation process resulting in a redesign of programming, 300% increase in funding, and new partnerships with universities and government agencies🎓 Held an adjunct faculty appointment at the Russian Academy of Labor and Social Relations, teaching service-learning community development seminars and supervising research; initiatives credited with 50% increase in university applications over 3 years🇷🇺 Designed and facilitated a full program track for a 1,000+ attendee global summit on peace and security, keynoted by Mikhail Gorbachev
