Contributing to the training of British ground troops about to deploy to combat operations in Afghanistan using the highly regarded JCOVE simulation tool (as also used by the Australian and US Army), a software-based ‘virtual environment’.

Sourcing and investigating stories in hostile environments, the role included writing full scripts for television to enable stories to be marketed internationally. Scripts had to be written to very specific criteria without compromising operational guidelines. I would then undertake all filming required to illustrate each piece, often whilst conducting.

Crown Media was contracted to conduct media training for the military before they deploy to theatre, facing the full glare of the 24 hour news spotlight. As a cameraman & editor or journalist I would work in two-person teams, embedded both on warships and in exercise areas.As in reality pieces would be shot and produced and then broadcast the same day.

A responsible role for a Junior Rating, this involved a large workload done completed to a high degree of accuracy.
