This would usually involve being embedded with military units on the front line around Afghanistan, with some PRstories in the city of Kabul.Once shot I would edit the pieces in theatre on a laptop using Premier Pro, ready for broadcast and sharing on the NATO YouTube channel and website. Stories were often delivered to tight deadlines usually with limited IT facilities, often on the same day of shooting. Finished pieces were regularly amongst the most popular on the NATO website, consistently gaining the most ‘hits’ in any given week.I was employed on a temporary 6 month contract to cover established staff shortages. A responsible role for a Junior Rating, this involved a large workload done completed to a high degree of accuracy. Ashore roles were more defined, separated between registry work (incoming mail registry and general admin) and pay / personnel administration, arranging travel for personnel etc.
