Profile bio

About Brett W. Howell

Operating at the intersection of business and the environment, I catalyze innovators to achieve breakthrough solutions to today’s most pressing environmental issues. I work through an entrepreneurial lens, focusing on notoriously hard-to-address global challenges, such as plastic pollution and marine conservation. I have created a successful track record of collaboratively launching and executing successful strategies, projects, programs, and organizations. In 2022, The Explorers Club recognized me as one of that year’s Explorers 50: Fifty People Changing the World. This honor was granted to me based on my efforts in exploring, inspiring, and creating the future. The New York Times also profiled my work in 2020, highlighting my nonprofit, Howell Conservation Fund, which works to drive breakthrough conservation solutions. In my 15+ years as a leader dedicated to making a positive impact, I bring three key skills to all efforts in which I am involved: Acting as a connector, mobilizing environmental and business leaders around shared opportunities. I led projects to align stakeholders on a market-based framework for coral reef restoration in Florida, the Caribbean, and Micronesia.Strategizing and identifying opportunities where others see challenges. Having worked across multiple industries, I understand how problems work as a system, and I can identify solutions that truly address them. As part of the leadership team of both the 2019 & 2024 Henderson Island Plastic Pollution Expeditions, I identified viable “circular economy” solutions for what to do with the plastic waste we collected from the world’s most plastic polluted beach. Driving execution. I love building and managing agile teams that get products and ideas into the market successfully. I co-led development/execution of a marine litter “circular economy” program under Coca-Cola’s World Without Waste sustainability initiative, focusing on trash-trap technologies that involved stakeholders across the U.S. and was highlighted by the EPA as a national case study. If you’re a visionary leader interested in finding innovative solutions to environmental issues, please get in touch. I’m always looking for opportunities to partner and collaborate.

Listed skills include Sustainability, Program Management, Environmental Policy, Environmental Awareness, and 32 others.
