What a lucky man I am. I love being a trial lawyer. With 40 years of experience exclusively as a litigation attorney, I would like to think I am among the most experienced medical malpractice attorneys you will find anywhere. And it is still my passion. For much of my career I was a medical malpractice defense lawyer in Virginia. I tried well over 100 medical malpractice jury trials – and, as anyone in this business knows, that’s a big number. I didn’t win them all – no lawyer can make that claim - but no one could accuse me of being afraid to try a case. I am out of the defense business now; my practice is focused exclusively on representing medical malpractice plaintiffs. In 2020 and 2021 I had the largest verdicts in Virginia. Since 1999, a big of my practice has involved Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) cases relating to military, VA and Indian Health Service healthcare. The practice is nationwide. The firm has handled claims in most, if not all, of the 50 states. In addition to Virginia cases I have been admitted pro hac vice in over 30 different Federal district courts, many more than once. Federal court does not intimidate me and I am well-versed in dealing with different United States Attorney’s offices, as well as the various government agencies. Defending malpractice cases taught me what works and what does not on that side. At this point, I have now prosecuted many cases. Having such broad experience gives me a unique ability to see any case from “both sides.” This has enabled me to achieve consistently impressive results for our clients, including multiple seven figure resolutions. I have not accomplished this alone, however. I have great colleagues, both lawyers and non-lawyers.
