My role at Brainlabs involves taking innovative ideas and productising them for our clients. I head up a talented global engineering team who develop amazing in house technology for our multi award winning marketing agency. I introduced Agile methodology and restructured the engineering department in order to pivot quickly and provide flexibility. I developed a product road map for engineering and created a career progression map to provide clarity on growth for the engineers.

Responsible for three key areas of the business, I developed strategies and functional objectives for each area. I created a product vision, using market research, usage analytics, customer research, product ideation, requirements capture, UX design, development, release planning and product KPI’s.Accountable for the strategic product roadmap, migrating the complex legacy system into a more scalable and expandable system whilst engaging customers with new features and culling unused features. I regularly interacted with clients to gain valuable insight as well as provide support for the account managers. Interacted with clients at scoping and feasibility meetings to discuss bespoke solutions. Working with the data science team, developed a system that was more accurate and scalable to power the back end of Adthena. Sourced and hired additional resource to expedite the production of machine learning models and negotiated with the board to expand this vital area of the business.To continually develop and learn I regularly attended meet-ups such as Pivotal Labs, Mind the Product, Business of Software and AWS events. I held several hack days in order to generate new and different ideas. I also led and facilitated company brain storming and blue sky events.

In my role as Engineering Director, I hired and built a development team consisting of an architect, senior developers and junior developers. I introduced Agile to the team and worked on the re-architecture of our technology using big data technologies such as Storm, Cassandra, Redis, RabbitMQ and RedShift all hosted on AWS. Developed a strategy to scale-up the legacy system allowing continual growth of the client base, whilst allowing time to create an approach for scaling-out.Took over the responsibility for DBA and SQL development, optimising stored procedures and migrating data. I have also worked with architects at Amazon to evaluate AWS technologies.

Developed a competitive search intelligence application, providing reports and information on a client’s search performance to benchmark against competitors. The reports provided information on client competitors, who they are, what their keywords are, how much traffic they were receiving, how much they spent on PPC, how they ranked in both SEO and PPC and how this changed over time. Other reports monitored the client’s brands and allowed them to monitor their affiliates. Reports were provided as online views or as downloadable reports.Managed the project from inception, initially looking at feasibility and obtaining “buy in” from the board of directors and investors. I worked alongside a SQL Developer to produce an alpha version of the application. Demonstrated this to various potential clients to gauge market appetite. I lead a team of developers working to move the application to a beta version with a number of clients and ultimately to release.
