I was recalled to my previous position as a Building Inspector III by the Building Division within the Community Development Dept. in May of 2015. I was assigned to the public counter as one of three BI's serving on the public counter. I provide customer, administrative and technical support for a variety of development activities, including issuing building permits, assessing plans for meeting plan review submittal compliance and responding to building planning, zoning, and/or other site development related questions concerning building and developing land in the City. Due to my expertise as a former Housing & Dangerous Buildings Field Inspector, I serve as the primary point of assistance to the Housing and Dangerous Building (HDB) Unit, Planning & Building Units in assisting those customers that need building permits to resolve their HDB enforcement cases.

A lateral transfer position became available as a Code Enforcement Officer in December of 2013. I accepted the position when offered it. I performed office and field work involving the inspection, investigation, and enforcement of applicable codes and ordinances pertaining to nuisance, zoning, pest infestation, noise, smoke, junk and debris, vehicles, and related abatement. My primary assigned inspection / enforcement beat was the northern half of the City of Sacramento boundaries, north of Highway 50.

Due to the devastating impacts of the Great Recession that resulted in a 20% decrease in personnel employed by the City of Sacramento, including the decreasing number of building inspectors that the city needed to retain, to avoid being laid off, I sought and achieved employment elsewhere within other city departments. I accepted a position within the City of Sacramento's Parking division , 1st as a relief parking lot attendant and eventually as an on-street parking enforcement officer.

BI III Within Code Enforcement's Housing & Dangerous Buildings (HDB) Unit. I was 1st assigned as a field inspector, serving under the direction of a Supervisor BI. My duties included investigating the validity of assigned complaints, active case management of those complaints found to be valid. This is achieved by establishing and documenting deficiencies, sub-standard & dangerous conditions, providing specific written direction to property owners with regards to what would be required to resolve those cases along with consequences to them for failure on their part to address these problems in a timely manner. This direction could be either through a Preliminary Notice of Enforcement or more severely through the issuance of a Notice & Order to Repair or Demolish repair structures. Case management could include coordination with various city depts. within the City's Building , Planning, Police, Fire, City Attorney's office and organizations and agencies outside of the City's organization, as warranted. The Sacramento City Council voted to establish a Pro-Active Rental Housing Inspection Pilot Program . This occurred in the Spring of 2006. I was assigned, along with one other HDB BI, under the direction of one Supervising BI and the Chief of HDB, to develop, implement, modify as needed and provide feedback to the city council with our progress on their requested RHIP Pilot program. The results of this pilot program would be the foundation for developing a City-Wide Rental Inspection Program. In the Spring of 2008 , following a lot of rewarding & hard work, The City Council voted to create a city-wide Rental Housing Inspection Program. I was Instrumental in developing and enacting the city-wide Rental Housing Inspection Program enacted in the City of Sacramento.
