Proudly born and raised in New Jersey, Bria Cherelle Barnes-Coleman is both a charismatic educator in-practice and at heart, and also an inquisitive lifelong learner. Seeing every day as a new opportunity to expand her network, build her skillset, and broaden her ability to make change, Bria can often be found taking notes, raising tough questions, and seeking understanding for herself and others. Having lived and learned in New Jersey, New Hampshire, and New York with students in K-12 education through post-graduate education, it is safe to say that Bria is always up for a “new” challenge.With a decade of experience in K-12 education as a classroom teacher, advisor, community event coordinator, and administrator, Bria continues to excel in the art of multitasking, team building, and increasing belonging across institutions. From teaching classes of 10-200 students, Bria continues to eagerly engage with students, faculty, staff, and families on their own journeys of understanding, especially when it comes to the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. As an award-winning faculty and staff member, published author, and educator mentor, Bria is dedicated to empowering the voices of others and amplifying her own.Bria believes in cultivating intentional community ties that deepen her connection to the Capital Region, and also keep her connected to her home state. As the incoming board chair for Girls Inc. of the Capital Region, a 2023 Black & Latino Adult Achiever, and the newly appointed Director of the Women's Leadership Initiative and Community Engagement, Bria intertwines her passion for supporting the next generation of learners with joy, laughter, and authenticity in the office and in her spare time. Additionally, Bria continues to sit on the Advisory Board for the Garden State Women, and give back to her undergraduate alma mater, William Paterson University, in the form of an endowed scholarship.No matter where or when you meet Bria Cherelle Barnes-Coleman, her connections are long-lasting and worthwhile.
