Hello everyone! My name is Bria Smith, and I am a graduate student at Auburn University, working towards a Masters of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Biomechanics. I am hardworking, and my passion for learning regardless of the possibility of failure drives me in all that I do. I strive to be well rounded within my field, to conduct research and practice physical therapy. My most prominent research interests include biomechanics, gait, movement, and health disparities across race and gender. Movement is one of the keys to improving quality of life, and I want to help people do what they enjoy without worrying about risk of injury or reinjury. For individuals who are limited in their movement, I don't want them to feel as though they must always be "left out" when it comes to specific physical activities and tasks. Physical and mental health go hand-in-hand, and both play an important role in ones perception of their quality of life.As a Black woman, I also hope to advocate for Black people and women in health and exercise. Health disparity is a factor that I do not have the privilege to ignore, especially within a society where Black people and women are disproportionately affected by poor treatment and an overall lack of representation within healthcare fields.
