I am an aspiring health educator with a passion for social justice and inclusion. Through my experience as a dietary aide and my community involvement, I have had the opportunity to work with diverse individuals with unique experiences in health care. I feel excited by the opportunity to improve the lives of those with inequitable access to healthcare through education and advocacy. I am inspired by a variety of public health topics such as sexual health, mental health, nutrition, substance use, and risk reduction. In public health, I strive to use empathy to provide education and resources to underserved communities. In my Grant Writing course, I had the opportunity to be a team leader in developing a pilot program for 10-15-year-olds at the La Crosse YMCA. Through this process, I was able to gain experience in developing a program, communicating with organizations, and writing grant proposals. We decided to create a program that addresses nutrition, physical activity, and mental health. The program focuses on how all of these factors intertwine to determine an individual's health. I am excited by the opportunity to continue working with diverse communities and address health and wellness as a whole.
