About Bria Fast

A transdisciplinary landscape architect and political scientist currently based in the Lake Tahoe Area. Specializing in integrating research and design with visual communication and public engagement skillsets to further the impact of design solutions.I am passionate about the intersection of design, sustainability, economics and psychology – where people and their fundamental needs are at the core.
 At Design Workshop I collaborate with teams on projects related to transportation, resilient recreation, and master planning.Before joining Design Workshop, I was a researcher with the BRE Group and then at the University of Minnesota's Great Lakes Design Lab. I was involved in researching the application and adoption of sustainability metrics designed for the humanitarian sector as well as topics such as resilient landscapes, experimental forestry, and water use and access issues. I also interned with the City of Minneapolis Transportation Planning and Programming Department, where I assisted teams working on capital improvement projects and worked collaboratively with a city-wide team on community engagement and social media outreach strategies.I received my MLA from the University of Minnesota and spent eight months as a guest student at the Oslo School Of Architecture And Design in Tromsø, Norway. I studied Arctic Territories with a focus on climate change mitigation, heritage preservation, and resiliency in Arctic communities with scientific fieldwork and research in the Lofoten Islands and Svalbard.
