As the K-12 Education & Outreach Coordinator for the Scientist in Every Florida School initiative, I am primarily responsibility for facilitating physical and virtual scientist classroom visits. These are designed to support science teachers with Earth systems content as well as act like role models for students with the ultimate goal of creating the next generation of environmental stewards. Additionally, the role extends to planning and leading professional development workshops for Florida science teachers.

Graduate level Designing Integrated Media Environments

As the instructor for various high school science classes, I spend a large portion of my time conducting educational and scientific research for the development of innovative instructional strategies. I communicate up-to-date scientific data on global climate change to students to inspire interest and awareness of global environmental issues. Acting as the department chair, I develop, coordinate, and implement educational strategies for five incoming science teachers. I cultivate partnerships with science museums, organizations, and other educators to enhance curriculum and make presentations to school district chief academic officers, school leaders, and stakeholders to increase awareness of classroom progression and challenges to gain further support of outside resources. Finally, I collect and analyze student academic datasets to present to district executives, school leaders, teachers, parents, and students. Select Achievements:» Developed student skills to increase standardized exam passage rate from 66% to 97%.» Consistently encourage and motivate individual and corporate donors to fund over $10,000 of environmental opportunities for high school exploration.» Awarded Teacher of the Month for implementing new strategies for student success.

Within this role, I instructed integrated co-teaching classes of 23 students in humanities, science, and math. In collaboration with a team of teachers and special education department, I developed Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student, led meetings, and worked closely with parents and teachers to identify students’ academic success and growth areas. I identified and developed student academic and behavioral solutions together with principal, co-teachers and social emotional counselor. Selected Achievements:» Planned lessons accessible for students of all skill levels.» Identified problems and solutions for 23 students resulting in at least 14% growth on standardized exam.
