Design of internal and external components of aerial refueling equipment.

As a summer project I personally designed and manufactured a vest clothing article. The original fabric used for the vest was a large blanket I sourced from my local goodwill. Using my bodies dimensions and my personal inspiration for the fit of the vest I created a clothing template to cut each piece of the vest. Taking advantage of my mother's sewing machine I practiced on the excess fabric to better understand general sewing practices and to make sure I would not warp the fabric by crooked sewing. After sewing each cut piece of the blanket together into the general shape of the vest I included an outer lining and magnetic clasps to give it a more professional look and structure. I learned many important skills related to sewing, especially the importance of symmetry. I also gained knowledge on quality product design and time management.

Tasked with designing a product to help pet owners, our team designed a proximity sensor that played a shrill noise meant to deter cats and other animals from entering cabinets and other places they were not supposed to. The final product includes a PIR sensor, Bluetooth adaptation for turning the device on and off, and other components. For this project, we utilized the engineering process to ideate, design, and prototype a fully working and marketable product. During the process I was able to learn and use PLA material 3d printers, and became familiar with COREL draw and Solidworks, for laser cutting and 3d printing. I gained knowledge on working with COTS components integrated with personally designed components and a grasp on product design.
