Brian Alva received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of La Verne. During his undergraduate career, Brian was involved in many activities and clubs; such as SPLSS, Beta Beta Beta honors society, and the Global Medical Brigade. He is most proud of creating the Pre Health Professionals Club at ULV. Brian also tutored many classes; including Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Business. He made the dean's list every semester and later graduated with high honors. After graduation, Brian worked in an Emergency Room as a Technician for 4 years. Brian has volunteered his time in many ways over his life; such as St. Vincent De Paul, Braille Institute, elementary school teacher's aid, and assisting the mentally handicapped. Brian has been involved in many research opportunities in medicine. In 2009, Brian had the opportunity to present a paper he coauthored at the Monterey conference of Investigative Medicine. Brian Alva is currently attending Indiana University School of Optometry. Brian continued his love for research by working in the Developmental Vision lab while attending IUSO. Brian was recently an author on the publication Objective Near Heterophoria in Emmetropic and Hyperopic Preschool Children in the April 2014 issue of IOVS (volume 55, issue 13)., which was presented at the 2014 ARVO Meeting. He is now in his last year of school and awaiting to receive a Doctor of Optometry Degree this year.
