I am part of the Novecom team, who manufacture remote solar-powered monitoring platforms for real-time monitoring of dust, noise, water and weather. Our main clients are mining companies who require continuous monitoring of environmental data for compliance reporting. I have specialised in water quality analysis, from writing quotes and design of metering stations to installation and data analysis of results. I also play a role in the research and development of new technologies.

In chage of automation in an ethanol refinery. I'm working with a Siemens PCS7 DCS and other PLC software.I am also Maintenance Manager running a team of fitters, electricians an instrument technicians.

Initially I freelanced mainly with former Toshiba customers. I also did some consultancy work for Yokogawa. I have been provided software assistance on existing Toshiba DCSs, and did some automation software for medium-sized turnkey plants in the food industry (Omron and Siemens PLCs). In later years I dedicated more and more time to writing software (in Visual Studio DotNet). I wrote some supervisory software, but during my final years worked mainly on large software projects, mainly in the health industry. I have acquired extensive experience in working with large databases (SQL Server and Oracle), and have written OCR software for reading “fill-in-the-blanks” forms with scanners. I have also written software for PDAs (used in home care in the health industry). I have acquired experience in writing drivers to interface PLCs with other equipment, especially in Hart and Modbus protocols.

Spriano maufactures industrial instrumentation (temperature and pressure transmitters) and was Italian agent for Toshiba DCS, controllers and PLCs. I was project manager for several DCS projects, and became expert in providing process control solutions with multi-loop controllers and PLCs.

A brief experience in an innovative waste incinerator. The plant was deigned to produce energy from a very high temperature oven (3000°C) which burnt domestic and special waste, with low air pollution. I specialized in oven process control. After a year the plant closed down for economic reasons.

Worked on medium to large DCS applications (Centum XL and Micro XL), mainly in Italian refineries.

Gained experience on several large petroleum plant projects, doing periods of up to 3 months on site, mainly in the Middle East (Libya, Bahrein, Algeria, off-shore in India). Instrumentation and mechanical design (piping) and site supervision during installation of metering systems for ports and refineries.

The company was technical consultant to the Libyan government for construction of petroleum terminals and tank farms. I did checking of design specs and drawings for compliance with international standards. Wrote manuals and gave site assitance on technical problems.
