From July 2000 to May 2016, I was a supervisor in the Special Student Services department of the Cobb County School District (Marietta, GA). My primary duties were: fiscal management and supervision of department budgets (general fund and Federal grants); supervision of required data reporting for special education (State and Federal reporting), and; fiscal management of our school district's Medicaid revenue (fee-for-service and administrative claiming) programs. I also provided ongoing training and technical assistance for administrative staff on the above budgets and data reporting requirements, and collaborated regularly with personnel within my department as well as other departments (Financial Services, Student Data Reporting, Student Transportation) to ensure accuracy and to develop/implement improvements in the associated budgeting and data reporting/analysis processes.

From 1987-1994, I was the state consultant with the Georgia DOE (Division for Exceptional Students, or DES) for specific disability and special education service categories: orthopedic impairments; other health impairments; hospital-homebound services, and: physical and occupational therapy services. I provided information, technical assistance, training and support from the State level to 180 local school districts in Georgia. I was also a team member and team leader for the required Federal compliance review process for these districts on a recurring 5-year cycle. In addition, I provided supportive consultation for adapted physical education services during this period.From 1994-2000, I moved to a lateral consultant position in the Federal Programs unit of the DES. During this period, I provided information, technical assistance and training to all Georgia school districts in the submission, approval and management of their Federal grant budgets for special education. I also continued to participate in the compliance review process as a team member.

From 1981-1987, I was a classroom teacher for secondary students with orthopedic and other health impairments at Wills High School in Smyrna, GA. I provided both small group instruction and support of inclusion in the general education classroom for my students, depending on student needs identified in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs).

From 1975-1981. I was a classroom teacher for middle/high school-aged students with hearing impairments or other communication disorders in the Davidson School program of Elwyn Institute. The students were primarily deaf or had other language/communication disorders, and they also exhibited additional disabilities (such as mental retardation, emotional/behavioral disorders, and so forth). During the 1980-81 school year, I served as the lead teacher for the hearing impairments/communication disorders program at Elwyn.
