I founded Stella Maris to provide nutrition based solutions for people experiencing chronic conditions affecting cognitive functioning. Scientific research has shown that nutritional deficiencies exist for many chronic diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and a condition which precedes AD, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Research has also shown that for individuals with MCI and AD, certain critical nutrients either improve or maintain mental function. However, delivering scientifically proven nutritional solutions for chronic conditions, such as MCI and AD, is often overlooked and no standard of nutritional care exists. Our first product is MemRE, a patent pending nutritional powder with 10 active ingredients. MemRE has been formulated specifically to aid in the maintenance of the mental function of people with memory and other cognition problems, particularly those aged 50 and older. Our team's strategy is to commercialize MemRE both as a dietary supplement and as a branded ingredient offering to strategic partners. We also plan on testing MemRE in a randomized, placebo controlled trial and show its effectiveness and safety. There are several factors that drive the commercialization of MemRE:· The looming crisis in cognitive impairment as the worldwide population of people over 50 years old is estimated to exceed 2 billion by 2050· Survey data in both the US and UK which show that people over 60 consider the risk of dementia as their top concern· The use of dietary supplements by more than 65% of the boomer and elder generations, who desire to improve or maintain their health· Numerous studies which show the critical importance of certain nutrients in maintaining cognitive functionCognition problems affect tens of millions of people in the US and worldwide and nutritional products can be incorporated in a plan of healthy living to improve their quality of life.
