I grew up in Ontario. Like many kids, I enjoyed playing sports including football and wrestling as well as activities like splitting firewood and gardening. Unlike most kids, I was also interested in the structures themselves. At six years old, I was planting trees in my mother’s garden, and when I got to high school, I started and ran a landscaping business. Our responsibilities included trimming hedges and fertilizing and cutting lawns. I also did a co-op in high school which led to a greenhouse manager position with Forestry Canada. It was only natural that I went to college and studied forestry, choosing to attend Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Here I earned bachelor’s (HBScF) and master’s (MScF) degrees in Forestry. During my time at Lakehead, I was fortunate that SavATree recruited me for an arborist role in New Jersey. In 1999, I moved to northern NJ and began working for SavATree, serving homeowners in Bergen County. Just like a home inspector has important skills in assessing the quality and safety of a home, my work as an arborist involves evaluating the intricacies of a property. As part of my work, I appraise the trees, shrubs, and lawn and help homeowners protect their property from deer and other creatures, while reviewing the compatibility and safety of the whole. For example, every tree species is genetically distinct and has unique needs. It takes a specialist to aid a property owner in achieving a balance between their oaks, maples, and other species.After 23 years, I am proud that people I have worked with recommend me to their family, friends, and neighbors. Those who have hired me know that I am responsive, and if they ask me a question, I will give an honest answer. I do not recommend solutions that I think are unnecessary.
